Sheikh Muhammad Saeed Ramadan Al-Bouti: His Scholarly, Exegetical Methodology and Doctrinal Vision

Abstract

This study examines the life and doctrine of Sheikh Muhammad Saeed Ramadan Al-Bouti one of the most prominent contemporary Islamic scholars, by reviewing his early life, educational journey, and doctrinal beliefsegins by narrating his Up bringing in, Botān Island, Turkey, and his family’s migration to Damascus،.It outlines the initial stages of his education, followed by his scholarly pursuits at the Islamic Guidance Institute and Al-Azhar University, calumniating in his career teaching Sharia sciences and holding prominent academic positions at the University of Damascus.

The research also explores his doctrinal beliefs, showing Al-Bouti’s adherence to the moderate Ash‘ari school, focusing on his interpretation of divine attributes, the creation of the Qur’an, intercession through the Prophet ﷺ, matters of divine decree and destiny, prophethood, and unseen matters. The study highlights his moderate religious approach, which balances commitment to textual sources with rational reasoning, emphasizing worship, spiritual education, and avoidance of political extremism or rigid literalism in religious discourse.

       The study concludes that Sheikh Al-Bouti represents a model of moderate Islamic thought in the contemporary era, By combining rational tradition with textual fidelity, he leaves behind a significant scholarly and religious legacy through his books, articles, and lectures.
